Airplanes on display at the National Aviation Museum of Korea

National Aviation Museum of Korea

Last week, I talked about plane spotting at Los Angeles International Airport.  Another great place for plane spotting is located at Gimpo International Airport in Seoul, South Korea.  And it's not just a prime plane spotting location, it's a full-blown aviation museum: the National Aviation Museum of Korea.

Recently opened in 2020, the museum contains over a dozen airplanes on display, along with fascinating exhibits about aviation history, the aviation industry, and the future of aviation.  I found the exhibit about the birth of aviation in Korea particularly interesting.

If you get tired of looking at the static airplanes on display inside, you can go up on the rooftop observation deck and watch the planes arriving and departing Gimpo Airport.  And if you work up an appetite, there is a cafe and a small convenience store located inside the museum.

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays) from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and admission is free.  It is easy to get to; just take the subway to the Gimpo International Airport station, and then walk through the terminal and follow signs to the museum.

Until next time, keep looking to the sky and keep dreaming.
